Join us as we follow Shelly Sund’s journey of ‘committing to me’

We will be following Shelley Sund’s health and fitness journey for the next 12 months as she goes from empty-nester to healthy goal setter! We are so excited to document her progress and share her journey with you.  This is #ShellysStory.

In her words…

My name is Shelley Sund, an “almost” 50 year-old Bangor area mom of 2 and wife to a Bangor High school teacher.  As of this fall, my husband and I are now labeled “empty nesters” with no teenage mouths to feed, rides to give, sports to follow and rooms to clean.  I would lie to say that it has been easy as we are not used to a quiet house and more time on our hands. We have been preparing for the physical abandonment, but we knew we also needed to focus on a priority shift….ourselves.  This included our health, our eating habits and our fitness.

I’ve always been an active person.  Through grade school and into college I played basketball, soccer and softball.  I am great at group participation where I can hide in the corner and do my thing. I am also very competitive. I like to win but I am horrible at pushing myself.  I don’t exercise at home and I am not a fan of long walks to running for fun and, for that, I am not the shape I once was – I’m overweight or as my family is known for “big-boned”.

Before starting my path at Wilcox,  I had gym anxiety. I want to join the right gym where I can get great instruction and support, but the right centers are not in our budget.  We have 2 kids in college at the moment and I could not imagine spending any money on myself. It would seem selfish.

The experience that I have experienced over the last 4 weeks at Wilcox has been amazing.  From the first moments of meeting Paige and discussing my commitment, going over my personal fitness goals, and defining my future successes – I was hooked.  The motivation and professionalism of the staff creates such a great, welcoming environment. Never would I imagine that I would look forward to working so hard for myself.

I need to define my “healthy spirit” – the product of my health body and mind.  I need to find a sense of wholeness, a sense of knowing me, and a sense of something far greater and more wonderful than what my body looks like or my day-to-day lifestyle.  I need to make myself a priority and commit to focus on my personal successes.

My goals are to feel healthy, sleep better, find a balanced/consistent schedule of work and exercise, (honestly) lose some weight and learn to maintain a healthy/future lifestyle.

Right now, my goal is to have a LONG TERM goal!  I need to make my life about me! I need to find my healthy spirit…. and now I know that I am on the right path.

“I’m committing to me!”

INCREDIBLE.  Sometimes the even smallest step in the right direction be the most impactful step of your life.  We are beyond excited to support Shelley along her health and fitness journey and we are so excited she has given us the permission to share her story with you.  We hope Shelley’s story will inspire you and motivate you to commit to healthy living – whatever that means to you.

Happy Training!
